Job Summary: The Grant Accountant will be responsible for program grant accounting thus ensuring compliance with funding source agreement and guidelines, monitoring of approved budget, accurate submission of financial reports, preparation for grant audit and any verification requirements.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:   

  • Support Program Managers in the financial reporting and other administrative requirements of the grant/contract.
  • Tasked with monitoring/tracking the status of each program through its program life cycle; and
  • Monitoring of the approved budget.
  • In charge of preparation and coordination of Grant Audit work
  • Prepare, review, or direct all accounting entries (transactions and journals) related sponsored programs and restricted funds.
  • Prepare all applicable fiscal reports for sponsored programs and ensure the timely submission thereof.
  • Reconciling & verifying transactions before posting them to the respective ledgers.
  • Managing daily general post ins/outs depending on the transactions (payments, receipts, purchases, etc.)
  • Support overall office administration and back-office needs in coordination with office, field and production staff, and service providers as needed.
  • Support AFRIpads overall company objectives to drive growth and impact
  • Perform any other duties assigned by his/ her supervisor

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:  

  • The ideal candidate should preferably hold a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration preferably in Accounting or Finance.
  • At least four years of accounting experience, preferably two in non-profit sponsored programs
  • Computer literacy i.e. working knowledge of QuickBooks accounting software, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Knowledge of general accounting and fiscal management principles.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
