Mak Director Human Resources Hands Over Office

On Tuesday 4th July 2017, the Outgoing Director of Human Resources, Mrs. Mary K. Tizikara handed over office to the Acting Director, Mrs. Dorothy Sennoga-Zake. Mrs. Sennoga-Zake is the Manager-Staff Development, Welfare and Benefits Division in the Directorate of Human Resources, Makerere University.

Appointed Director Human Resources effective 1st May 2012 for a period of five years, Mrs. Tizikira’s contract ended on 30th April 2017. The Makerere University Appointments Board then granted her a two-month extension which ended on 30th June 2017.

Reflecting on her tenure at the helm of the Directorate of Human Resources, Mrs. Mary K. Tizikara said:

“I wish to thank Makerere University for the opportunity accorded to me to make some contributions despite the many challenges, having risen through the ranks from a humble position of Administrative Assistant to the Director Human Resources. This attests to my commitment and performance that was realized and rewarded.”

Mrs. Tizikara, a Chartered Human Resource Specialist, looks forward to completing her PhD Studies, and in the true Makererean spirit has pledged to support the Acting Director when contacted. She applauded the staff in the Office of the Director Human Resources for their cooperation and also appreciated the support of all staff who stood by her through thick and thin to ensure the provision of HR solutions to the University.

Witnessing the handover, her Supervisor- the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Finance and Administration), Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe thanked Mrs. Mary K. Tizikara for her dedicated service to Makerere University and equally wished her successful completion of her PhD studies.

Welcoming the Acting Director-Mrs. Dorothy Sennoga-Zake into office, Prof. Nawangwe expressed his readiness to provide oversight in the execution of the HR mandate. He advised the incoming Director to liaise with the respective organs/officers for the successful implementation of the Health Insurance Scheme and to expedite the HR matters highlighted in the handover report.

Mrs. Sennoga-Zake thanked Mrs. Tizikara for her invaluable contribution to Makerere University, and in particular for uplifting the HR function in the University. “Makerere University is a family. We have enjoyed the cordial working relationship. I will always treat you as a sister. Please always feel at Makerere University, and in particular at the Directorate of Human Resources,” remarked Mrs. Sennoga-Zake

The following officers also witnessed the handover:  Mr. Benson Barigye-Acting Director Internal Audit;  Mr. Godwin Okiror-Acting Senior Employment Officer; and Ms Ritah Namisango-Senior Public Relations Officer.
