3rd MaK-SUN ADA Joint Doctoral School Tackles Supervision & Literature Review
The Joint Doctoral School between Stellenbosch University (SUN)’s African Doctoral Academy (ADA) and Makerere University is now in its third year and seemingly, going from strength to strength. Organised by the Directorate of Research and Graduate Training (DRGT), this year’s School started on Monday 3rd July 2017 and concludes today 7th July 2017. The two themes being tackled this year are Postgraduate Supervision and Working With Literature; the former running from 3rd to 5th July and the latter from 6th to 7th July 2017.
Speaking at the launch of the Joint Doctoral School on Monday 3rd July 2017, The Director-DRGT, Prof. Mukadasi Buyinza commended the participants for taking time off their rigorous academic schedules to attend the workshop. “Participants at the Third Joint Doctoral School hail from Makerere, Busitema, Gulu, Kyambogo and Mbarara Universities” he said.
He welcomed the week’s facilitators Prof. Liezel Frick and Dr. Ruth Albertyn and thanked the African Doctoral Academy for collaborating with DRGT in the training of Faculty in research relevant courses. Prof. Frick is the Director of and an Associate Professor in the Centre for Higher and Adult Education at SUN while Dr. Albertyn is a Research Fellow and SUN’s Business School and Research Associate, Centre for Higher and Adult Education, SUN.
“I am hopeful that the courses will present an opportunity for participants to network and exchange ideas and knowledge concerning research education” added Prof. Buyinza.
Prof. Liezel Frick and Dr. Ruth Albertyn on behalf of Stellenbosch University then presented Prof. Buyinza with a donation of relevant textbooks on doctoral supervision and working with literature. Professor Buyinza informed participants that these materials were to be accessed from the institutional repository, the Makerere University Library.
At the close of the Joint Doctoral School, participants in the two courses will each be awarded a certificate by Stellenbosch University.
