Job Summary:  The Financial Accountant requires a professional with a high level of attention to detail in order to ensure accurate reporting in all areas. They will be responsible for verifying all financial transactions in line with the company’s financial policies and in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards. The ideal candidate requires prior experience in book keeping and preparation of basic financial statements and Management Reporting. They will also need to have prior experience in dealing with Tax issues.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Accurate and timely preparation of the monthly Financial Reporting Package, the designated Weekly Scoreboards, Cash Forecasts and other periodic reports
  • Will adhere to the Financial Calendar and ensure the Monthly Closing Process is observed at each month end
  • Will prepare and sign the Monthly Closing Checklist together with the National Sales Manager for Uganda.
  • Will maximize the use of the Financial Information System and will ensure that all transactions are posted within it with all necessary supporting schedules (including Fixed Asset Registers and Inventory Listings) maintained in excel where necessary. Will assist the Finance Manager in the implementation of any additional modules and/or deployment of any new financial management software.
  • Will ensure adherence to Uzima Chicken processes and best practice and suggest ways to improve efficiency.
  • Will maintain and balance all general ledger accounts by verifying, allocating, and reconciling transactions; resolving discrepancies by compiling and analyzing account information.
  • Will be the Lead for all audits and will supports the Finance Manager Rwanda during audits by analyzing and preparing corresponding schedules for all general ledger accounts; compliance with Internal Controls and supporting documentation for all transactions and ensuring timely provision of information for auditors; this will also apply for the statutory audits.
  • Will conduct monthly and quarterly general ledger account reconciliations to ensure accurate reporting and ledger maintenance of Balance Sheet and Profit & Loss accounts.
  • Reviews all Related Party transactions and conducts a monthly reconciliation with Senior Accountant Rwanda
  • Participates in annual budget preparation, conducts continuous budget tracking and variance reporting; also coordinates the monthly cash forecast process.
  • Will be responsible for timely and accurate Payroll preparation, verification, Salary processing and corresponding General Ledger postings and control account reconciliations.
  • Will also be responsible for Statutory Filings and will support and ensure compliance with business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Secures financial information by completing database backups and protects organization’s values by keeping information confidential; avoids legal challenges by complying with legal requirements.
  • Reviews and recommends modifications to accounting systems and procedures where necessary.
  • Analyzes Financial Statements for discrepancies and other issues that should be brought to the Finance Manager’s attention.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Will ensure complete, accurate and timely management of the Fixed Assets Register, Inventory Schedules and other key schedules of Uzima Chicken Ltd where applicable.
  • Will be the custodian of all Pre-Printed and serialized control books and will maintain a clear schedule of issues
  • Will review the office cash to ensure policies are adhered to and will verify all reimbursement claims ‘ Will update the Cash Forecast Template daily and share with Uzima Rwanda Finance on daily basis
  • Will review transport communication and internet claims for the sales people and reimburse only in line with Uz policy
  • Will ensure that creation of new Vendor, Customer and General Ledger accounts can only be done after necessary approvals from Senior Accountant Rwanda and with adequate supporting documentation
  • All journal entries will be approved by Senior Accountant Uzima Rwanda and Proper supporting documentation maintained

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting Business Administration or other relevant qualification.
  • Ongoing pursuit of Professional accounting qualifications (ACCA/CPA)
  • At least three years of work experience in a busy accounting department.
  • Thorough knowledge of Financial Accounting Statements, IFRS and prior experience supervising/managing accounting staff.
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process.
  • Proven active work experience with a recognized financial accounting software
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Excel V-Lookups and pivot tables.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail and a strong sense of confidentiality.
  • Able to meet deadlines, ensure compliance with company procedures and maintain a positive attitude when under pressure.
  • Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills.
