About LEU:
Living Earth Uganda (LEU) is a natural resources and environmental management NGO that was established and formally registered under the Non-Governmental Organizations Registration Statute, 1989 and licensed to operate in Uganda in September 1999. LEU promotes awareness and skills creation in environmental management, to prompt communities and other stakeholders to translate the right ideas into action.
Job Summary: The Project Accountant will be responsible for supporting project financial activities at Unit/regional offices. The Project Accountant will work operationally with the Project Supervisor(s).
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Drawing a detailed workplan to guide implementation of activities.
- Implementing Organizational Finance Policies and Procedures
- Checking and ensuring accuracy of all receipts and payments transactions of the organization.
- Responsible for entering financial information and maintaining all financial records for projects and for the organization. This will include Posting books of accounts and ensuring all accounting records are up-to-date and are maintained in accordance with the generally accepted accounting principles and organizational policies and procedures.
- Obtain approvals as per organization policies and procedures on all procurements and purchases for the projects and for the organization.
- Preparation of monthly and annual financial reports.
- Preparation and filing of tax returns, remittance of NSSF contribution and any other statutory obligations
- Preparing the payroll and ensuring its proper deductions and accuracy.
- Maintaining the Fixed Assets Register.
- Ensuring proper control of organizational funds, stores and other assets.
- Ensuring that due liabilities are discharged in time and due revenues are collected promptly.
- Provide financial inputs for proposal development, project management, Human Resource Management policies, logistics, travel and other areas of administration.
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned by Management.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a first degree in in accounting or any related field
- Three years of experience in similar field
- Good working knowledge of computer programmes including MS Excel, Word, and accounting packages such as quick books etc is a MUST.
- Possession of certified accounting qualification or part of it is an added advantage
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
- Proven skills & experience in report writing, documentation, and team work
- Excellent interpersonal, and communication (verbal and written) skills
- Excellent budget and workplan management skills
- Ability to work with limited supervision
