  • Child-friendly criminal justice systems which use detention only as a last resort
  • Proportionate and gender-sensitive responses to women offending
  • The abolition of the death penalty and the introduction of humane alternative sanctions.

Job Summary:    The Project Officer will create awareness and accountability for human rights violations in the country, develop a toll for sustained human rights observance thereby creating a basis for reform.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Ensure systematic and timely monitoring and documentation oi human rights violations in line with international and regional standards.
  • Conducting fact-finding missions to target regions.
  • Advocacy at national regional and international level.
  • Writing and publicizing reports, briefing papers, letters, press releases, and submissions to national, regional and international bodies based on the findings.
  • Developing a lobbying and advocacy plan for effective and timely engagement with government officials, Inter-governmental agencies and the press on key human rights violations and key findings.
  • Develop a dissemination strategy.
  • Monitoring legislative and/or policy developments related to detainees’ rights.
  • Establish linkages with relevant governmental agencies and civil society organisations for effective implementation of the project.
  • Ensure strategic and ample visibility of interventions.
  • Manage Performance coordinate and monitor the work of the project team as well as setting performance indicators.
  • Prepare annual and quarterly project progress reports to the highest
  • Represent the organisation at different meetings organised by PRI partners as may be assigned.
  • Ensure proper use and care of all assets belonging to the organisation.
  • Establish linkages with other projects of the organisation
  • Supervise and mentor the project team.
  • Perform any other duties assigned.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The applicant must hold a master’s degree in International Human Rights, Law or related field. A post graduate qualification will be an added advantage.
  • Five years of working experience in human rights work at senior level,
  • Strong field research and documentation skills,
  • Ability to produce excellent written material under tight deadlines,
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills,
  • Report writing, analysis, editing skills,
  • Proficiency in the use of the MS Office, internet applications, social media tools and management information systems.
  • Good public relations,
  • Strong interpersonal skills demonstrated by the ability to build a team,
  • Strong managerial/leadership skills.
  • Results oriented, Self-motivated, Dedicated, Hardworking, Flexibility, Ready to handle impromptu demands in real time, High sense of innovation, Honesty, Integrity.
