About USAID RHITES-N Project:

USAID-RHITES-N, Lango will improve the use of integrated health services in Northern Uganda’s Lango region and strengthen the health system to sustain gains made by earlier projects. USAID-RHITES-N, Lango will contribute to improving key population-based national health indicators; build the capacity of the Ugandan government to carry out a sustainable and locally-driven response to the HIV epidemic, while also improving TB, malaria, nutrition, MNCH+A, and WASH outcomes. JSI will work with Ugandan stakeholders to design and implement health system strengthening strategies to scale up high-impact, evidence-based interventions at the national, sub-regional, district, and community levels. Interventions will include VMMC, virtual elimination of mother-to-child transmission of HIV, antiretroviral therapy, and condom education and distribution. JSI will focus where the greatest impact can be realized, with a priority on hard-to-reach and high-HIV-prevalence locations.

Job Summary: The TB Officer will collaborate with the Senior Infectious Disease Advisor to support the RHITES-N, Lango technical team, districts and health facilities to plan, coordinate and monitor implementation of TB interventions, including promoting case management (diagnosis, treatment and prevention) and prevention efforts through implementation of strategic objectives and interventions. The TB Officer will work together with Senior Infectious Disease Advisor in liaison with Ministry of Health (MoH) and relevant stakeholders to improve the quality of health care services in target districts. S/he will report to the Senior Infectious Disease Advisor.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Actively participate in coordination of implementation of TB case management including diagnosis treatment and prevention activities in RHITES-N, Lango supported districts;
  • Participate in the MOH planning and coordination meetings and activities;
  • Coordinate provider skills strengthening activities for TB activities in the project supported health facilities;
  • Actively contribute to collaborative efforts with a wide array of organizations, including district-level partners and other government counterparts to plan, implement, and monitor TB-related activities including capacity building efforts;
  • Contribute to provision of technical expertise on scopes of work for local organizations to implement TB-related demand-generation and service delivery activities that target health units and communities, support community health worker and community health group efforts to reduce the burden of TB, and support the integration of TB-specific activities into other related health initiatives;
  • Work with the Senior Infectious Disease Advisor to provide inputs for annual reviews and project strategic planning exercises, and ensure the accurate and timely submission of all required technical reporting and deliverables for malaria-related activities;
  • Work with M&E Team and Technical Director to help develop, maintain, and monitor the activities set in the work plan for TB activities; and
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant for the USAID RHITES-N TB Officer job placement should hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine and fully registered with Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners’ Council;
  • At least three years’ work experience in TB program management;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills coupled with project management abilities;
  • Ability and willingness to travel within the supported districts.
