Research and Education Network for Uganda (RENU) is a not-for-profit organisation that encourages ICT-enabled collaboration among Ugandan researchers and the higher education community by linking linen: to their peers and partners, nationally within Uganda, regionally within Africa and internationally to the global Research and Education (H&E) communities..

Job Summary:  The Senior Systems Engineer will plan, install and maintain all RENU services and data centers, participate actively in the planning and delivery of RENU services needed by member institutions over and above connectivity, participate in capacity development activities for member institutions, and contribute to innovation tor new services needed by member institutions.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The ideal candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or Electrical/ Telecommunications Engineering.
  • A Master’s degree in the above fields is an added advantage.
  • At least two certifications in Linux.
  • A certification in database administration and management is an added advantage.
  • A minimum of two years of experience with 0penStack and other Cloud infrastructure implementations.
  • Knowledge of federated identity technologies and architectures.
  • Experience with open source relational databases, such as MySOL and PostgreSQL.
  • Programming experience in any two of Python, PHP, Java, Perl, Ruby.
  • Linux shell scripting.
  • Mail server configuration and administration using open source tools.
  • Web server administration.
  • Knowledge of LAMP installations and configurations tor website hosting.
  • Knowledge and experience in open source monitoring tools such as Cacti, Nagios, LibreNMS and Nfsen.
  • Knowledge on SSL certificates and deployments.
  • Knowledge on security implementations for all systems listed above.
