About US:

M-KOPA Solar is the global leader of “pay-as-you-go” energy for off-grid customers. Since its commercial launch in October 2012, M-KOPA has connected more than 600,000 homes in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda to solar power, and is now adding over 500 new homes each day. The success of M-KOPA (M= mobile, KOPA= to borrow) stems from making solar products affordable to low-income households on a pay-per-use installment plan. Customers acquire solar systems for a small deposit and then purchase daily usage “credits” for US $0.45, or less than the price of traditional kerosene lighting. After one year of payments customers own their solar systems outright and can upgrade to more power.

Job Summary:   The Urban Sales Officer should have no experience or one year experience to sell our ‘pay-as-you-go solar home systems.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Deliver against set sales targets for TV solar home system.
  • Penetrate the Kampala area to make TV sales.
  • Uphold the brand values of M-KOPA, and adhere to serving customers with good customer skills.
  • Selling and explaining the benefits of ‘pay-as-you-go solar home systems to new Clients
  • Talking to existing clients that may want to upgrade.
  • Following up on prospects and referrals.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The ideal candidate for the M-KOPA Solar Urban Sales Officer job must have sales experience
  • Confidence
  • Willing to learn and earn.
  • Must be willing and able to walk extensively within assigned territory and work
  • Excellent negotiation, communication and teamwork skills.
  • Good planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure
  • Must have highly developed communication skills
  • Can speak publicly with confidence and poise
  • Have a strong sense of ambition, self-motivation, and self-discipline
