About US:
The Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) is a limited liability company incorporated in Uganda under the Companies Act. UEDCL owns the 33KV and below voltage i electricity distribution network and all the operational assets associated with the business currently leased to Umeme Ltd. The company monitors Umeme Ltd’s investment, generation, and distribution of power in eight territories covering over 67 Districts, operation of the pole plant at Lugogo, and execution of some rural electrification schemes on behalf of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- To provide legal services to the company in accordance with the governing laws. Company rules and regulations by representations in courts, drafting agreements and offering legal briefs to drafting agreements and offering legal briefs to BOD and Management.
- To assist in the provision of legal advisory and general legal support services to the business
- Principal accountabilities
- To carry out legal research
- To participate in the development and revision of policies and procedures to prevent illegal unethical or improper conduct the execution of business.
- To draft legal correspondences.
- To assist in the management of litigation process of the company by:
- Directing investigations into the gathering of information necessary for resolution of court disputes.
- Attending court sessions as company representative
- To assist in management of insurance claims
- Generally to assist the CS in managing the legal services function
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- A Bachelor of Laws Degree from a recognized university and a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice.
- Must be enrolled as an Advocate of the High Court with a valid Practicing Certificate.
- Must possess a minimum of 5 (five) years of legal practice and experience in a Law Firm or reputable organization.
- Must have knowledge and a firm understanding of legal procedural matters.
- Ability to translate legal concepts into an easily understandable format and to communicate them clearly.
- Must possess the maturity, self-confidence and interpersonal skills to work closely with staff at all levels.
- Excellent planning, organization and presentation skills.
- A high degree of self-motivation and ability to work independently.
- Flexible attitude and attention to detail
- Excellent written and oral skills
- Computer literate
- Have a valid driving permit.
