Job Summary: The Gender and Protection Assistant will implement the UNDP Protection and Gender programme interventions, as well as ensuring protection and gender mainstreaming across the programme. Provide technical support in relation to relevant child protection and gender standards; mainstream child protection and gender in all project implementation, and ensure adherence to child protection minimum standards in humanitarian action (SPHERE Standards) and principles as well as the Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse/Code of Conduct.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Train staff, stakeholders, partners and community structures members on Gender and Protection, humanitarian protection, protection from sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA) and sexual and gender based violence (SGBV).The training will strengthen the capacity of the staff, stake holders and community structure especially on identification, reporting and referral of all protection and gender issues arising during food distribution.
- Conduct community dialogue and meetings with community, community structures and stake holders on SGBV and PSEA. Reaching the community, community structures and stake holders through dialogues and meetings will help to change the mindset and behavior, facilitate feedback, gain more understanding on prevention and response to SGBV, PSEA
- Partners engagement, networking and coordination with respect to gender and protection
- Conduct onsite case management on issues related to CFW assistance, protection and gender
- Map out key actors in PSEA and SGBV in all the settlements for referrals and linkages.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal applicant for the World Vision Gender and Protection Assistant job must have two years of experience working in child protection and gender development programming, preferably in fragile contexts.
- Familiarity with key international standards for humanitarian work (e.g. CP Minimum Standards, Red Cross and Red Crescent Code of Conduct, SPHERE, and the Humanitarian Accountability Partnership (HAP) Standard, etc.)
- Certificate courses in IASC Guidelines and key training packages preferred especially Caring for Child Survivors of Sexual Violence, psychological First Aid in Emergencies, CPiE Minimum Standards, and GBV IMS, International Humanitarian & Human Rights Law Foundations.
- Fluency in English both spoken and written and knowledge of one of the local language (Madi, Arabic, Luo and Kiswahili) spoken in the area is an added advantage.
- Ability to communicate and work with beneficiary communities, government and stakeholders at the district level
- Experience in training and community consultation highly desired
- Good understanding of monitoring and evaluation processes.
