About US:
The Free Zones Act, 2014 was duly enacted by the Parliament of the Republic of Uganda and assented to by H. E. the President of the Republic of Uganda on the 2nd February, 2014. This law provides for the Legal and Institutional Frameworks governing Free Zones and related activities in Uganda. The Uganda Free Zones Authority (UFZA) is mandated to establish, develop, manage, market, maintain, supervise, control and to provide for other related matters of Free Zones in Uganda, as outlined in section 13 of the Free Zones Act, 2014. Free Zones are economic development tools that many Governments have used to stimulate manufacturing for export.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform the functions vested in him or her under the FreeZones Act, 2014
- Support the Board of Directors to carry out its governance responsibility
- Be responsible for the management and day-to-day operations of the Authority Preparation of Annual Budgets, Work Plans and Procurement Plans and ensuring Value for Money in utilisation of the Authority’s resources
- Prepare and provide Performance Reports in a timely manner
- Build professional relationships, linkages and partnerships that promote the interests of the Authority
- Provide leadership and foster a high team performance culture in the Authority
- Spearhead the mobilization of the resources for the Authority’s programs
- Be the authority Chef Spokesperson
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate must hold at least a Master’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Economics, Business Administration or Management, Business Science, Industrial Economics or Management, International Development, Science in Finance & Accounting
- Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Business Administration, Commerce, Economics, Development Studies, or a related discipline Relevant Qualifications in addition to the above will be an added advantage
- At least ten years’ experience at senior leadership/ Management level
- Tangible experience in or working with Government, multilateral institutions or Private Sector bodies
- Demonstrated experience in developing Private Sector and Public Sector Partnerships
- A track record in delivering complex institution-wide initiatives
- Demonstrated ability to lead relevant and meaningful dialogue with Stakeholders at the highest level
- Proven experience in providing advice of strategic and policy nature to Government or Private Sector
- Proven ability to build, lead and motivate teams across functional boundaries, and utilize talent and expertise of team members in a productive way Broad knowledge and understanding of the global development trends Broad knowledge and understanding of Uganda’s development aspirations and investment climate
- Experience with resource mobilization, utilization and accountability
- Experience in handling Board affairs
- Proven integrity and wise judgment
- Ability to communicate effectively in English
