Mandela National Stadium often referred to as Namboole Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Kampala, Uganda. It is currently used mostly for football matches, although other sports are also practiced. The stadium has a capacity of 40,202 people. The stadium was built with a grant of $36 million dollars from the People’s Republic of China. The 40,202 capacity sports complex was built with a $36m Chinese government grant and opened in 1997.
Job Summary: The Communication & Media Officer will be responsible for supporting strategies that increase MNSL visibility to diverse audiences, expanding digital info and strengthening internal communication. The incumbent will contribute to the design, development and dissemination of high quality tools and materials, ensuring style and branding compliance, backstopping MNSL media relations and supporting MNS website and social media platforms.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Visual Designs
- Offer support to all teams in designing and editing materials for a range audiences;
- Liaise with graphic designers and other viewers to develop and produce materials;
- Ensure brand compliance and represent MNS policies and guidelines across all materials;
- Coordinate or lead communication related training or events for staff;
Digital Engagement
- Managing Search Engine Optimization (SEO)-friendly website content at mandelastadium.co.ug; suggest areas of improvement and edit for consistency and accuracy.
- Backstop the MNS blog by soliciting creative posts from staff and guest bloggers, as well as editing and promoting content.
- Create, edit and post creative content on MNS`s Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Linkedln platforms.
- Repurposing and creating fresh content for monthly e-Newsletters and other direct communication.
- Maintaining a collection of photos, graphics, icons, info graphics, video clips to use in various digital content.
- Regularly monitor website and social media metrics and analyse monthly.
- Maintain digital database and support the physical library of MNS tools and resources.
- Expand digital dissemination outlets for information sharing such as websites, webinars, social media, videos, data visualisation, infographica, emails etc. probe
Media Relations
- Develop and implement MNS media strategies that advance visibility and research utilization;
- Coordinate responses to incoming media inquiries, review press releases and relevant news covering monitoring;
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications, International Relations, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism or any other related discipline. Required.
- Four (4) years of experience two (2) years of which should have been working as a communications professional or related professional experience
- Background in media relations
- Good knowledge of sports and related fields
- Use of social media management tools and social analytics software
- Communication Skills
- Strong writing and copy editing skills; ability to communicate clearly and effectively;
- Ability to understand present technical info to non-technical audiences;
- Team work
- Ability to work cooperatively with other departments
- Technology Skills
- Excellence in MS office applications, particularly Word and Power Point;
- Planning and Organizing
- Excellent organization and time management skills: ability to juggle multiple tasks and respond rapidly to new events and competing priorities;
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Creative problem solver with eye for good design;
- Detail oriented, self-motivated and comfortable working in small collaborative team environment;
