Job Summary: The Trauma and Rehabilitation officer will provide a high standard of support and counselling to individuals, youth and families who are experiencing trauma in Moroto and other communities within the Karamoja subregion.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Contributing to the objective of the team aiming at providing rehabilitation support (generally within a community environment).
- Applying theoretical knowledge of trauma and/or crisis interventions in the provision of counselling, demonstrating and ability to assess for and manage trauma appropriately.
- Implementing a case management approach in the provision of service to the target group.
- Providing individuals and family counselling services, conducting patients assessment and intake of patients needs.
- Ensuring intervention developed to address patients needs are clearly linked to an appropriate treatment plan, which is continuously monitored and evaluated for effectiveness.
- Designing Competency-based training manual and empowerment program relevant to the youth and community members.
- Identifying and conducting assessments for youth and community members with trauma to help and support them in healing/training.
- Maintaining an updated list of participants/beneficiaries of WPDI activities in trauma healing sessions and trainings.
- Identifying and carrying measures conducive to preventing youth from engaging in harmful activities.
- Building and empowering youth and communities through support systems for inclusiveness and sense of belonging.
- Developing coping mechanisms to raise the capacity of young people to exercise self-control and tap their own talent.
- Using approach to link to therapeutic techniques, such as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to benefit patients.
- Identifying and monitoring patients with major trauma cases.
- Supporting critical trauma cases for further therapy and refer them to health facilities for trauma treatment.
- Developing and promoting inter -community building between youth and adults to work towards peace and stability.
- Compiling monthly reports for progress in the program.
- Maintaining confidentiality and duty of care at all times and adhering to all organisational procedures, policies, standards and practices and Code of Conduct.
- Undertaking any other appropriate additional duties as required.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold an appropriate level of education and qualification in the social or behavioural sciences
- A minimum of four to five years of demonstrated experience and theoretical knowledge of crisis and trauma counselling patients in a variety of settings, for example individuals, couples, children, young people, families and groups.
- Proven ability to work efficiently, under pressure, and in multicultural environment.
- He/she must be a team player, and able to work with a diverse team of youth, communicate with sensitivity, respect and demonstrate effective therapeutic rapport, capacity to mobilize youth and community members.
- Language: Excellent written and spoken English, Ngakarimojong, Pokot and Leb Thur
