Pangea Educational Development (PED) is a small nonprofit organization that believes in the liberating power and opportunities provided by a quality education. Our model was developed to empower communities to improve their own educational circumstances: the school environment, livelihoods of teachers, and access for under-resourced students and to do so in a way that is sustainable. Job Summary: The Design Lead leads the organization with management and creation of all design oriented tasks. The Design Lead works primarily between the Communications and Pangea Publishing teams. With Communications, the Design Lead will produce digital and sometimes multimodal designs for the advertisement of the mission as well as help develop a brand identity. With Pangea Publishing, the Design Lead works to promote literacy and preserve culture through page design and illustrator collaboration. The position is based in Kampala but may require infrequent travel.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Primary Responsibilities:
- Manage the receipt of artwork from contracted artists and make needed digital adjustments to artwork
- Build repository of new artists for contract hire for Pangea Publishing book production
- Complete the page layout of all Pangea Publishing texts to be “Print-Ready”
- Work with the Communications Team to develop and maintain an organizational branding guide
Secondary Responsibilities: Assist the Communications Team with social media, website, and report design
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in the following fields: Arts, Design or related area. Preferred
- Expert command of Adobe Creative Suite. Required
- Superior oral and written communication skills in English. Required
- Computer fluency and understanding of Microsoft and Google Suite. Preferred
