The Uganda National Council for Science and Technology (UNCST) is a government agency established in 1990 by an Act of parliament (CAP 209). The UNCST under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MoSIT) is mandated to develop and implement strategies for integrating Science and Technology (S&T) into the national development process.
Job Summary: The Senior Science Officer (Research Registration & Management) will conduct quality assurance of study protocols submitted to UNCST, to ensure that they meet the requirements of registration and issuance of a research permit in accordance with the National Research Guidelines and applicable laws related to research regulation.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct quality assurance checks of study protocols to identify areas of non-compliance before final clearance;
- Track all submissions and regularly update Principal Investigators on the progress of their clearance;
- Track study expiry and send out reminders to Principal Investigators for their action;
- Develop monitoring schedules of registered study protocols for compliance;
- Perform any other UNCST tasks as necessary and as may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Masters in Public Health or Health Service Management or any health-related field;
- Bachelor’s Degree in Humanities and Social Sciences or Physical or Life Sciences or Public Health or Environmental Science;
- Training and proven experience in Research Ethics;
- Proven Experience in Research Regulatory Affairs;
- Demonstrate thorough understanding of local and international research guidelines & Regulations;
- Ability to work with a broad range of stakeholders and partners;
- Excellent computer skills, knowledge of Microsoft Office packages and database management skills;
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal);
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
- Experience: At least 6 year of experience in a similar field;
- Age: Not more than 40 years.
