Duty Station:  Selected applicants will be trained at Headquarters, Bukoto Branch, and In-field by Senior PD Officers and the Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) for two (2) months. The job location is Kampala. Uganda

About Tugende:

Tugende is a for-profit social enterprise providing asset and SME finance, leasing, insurance, and financial literacy to new customers, and consumer finance to qualified existing customers.

It was formally established in 2012 in Uganda and is a technology-enabled asset financier of income-generating assets for proven entrepreneurs, using a lease-to-own product to offer an affordable path to ownership of these assets. Tugende empowers customers unable to access formal credit and has financed over 35,000 customers.

About this job: Tugende’s mission is: “Helping people help themselves”. The Tugende Senior PD Officer will be required to work autonomously and responsibly by serving to; manage client vetting and client credit approvals, manage and conduct in-field research, calculate and manage new product payment plans, prepare management reports and presentations and seek new product and service opportunities for Tugende.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  The job holder will be assigned to deliver on the following assignments

  • Manage a team of PD Officers and co-conduct in-field market research for new high-potential products and services of the company’s priority sectors and evaluate clients’ needs.
  • Write product briefs and make recommendations for further exploration.
  • Manage, screen and co-conduct field vetting for potential clients for new pilot products and services.
  • Manage the credit process for new products, creating accurate credit analyses, and recommending credit approvals to the CCO.
  • Assess and recommend potential product suppliers and service providers for pilot products to the CCO to review.
  • For products that will be mainstreamed i.e. post-pilot phase, develop new training materials and manage new product training with PD Officers to responsible Branch Operations staff. Ensure that the Branch Operations staff can sustainably manage new products and services and achieve the company’s annual/quarterly/monthly/weekly targets.
  • Responsible for the achievement of annual/quarterly/monthly/ weekly company targets for new products and services.
  • Collate and actively seek out new product opportunities across all Branches with PD Officers.
  • Help develop proposals to pilot new products and services for the company’s priority sectors.
  • Assist with marketing activities to build a pipeline for new products and services.
  • Assist with the procurement and distribution of products. Submit timely requisitions and follow up regularly with suppliers.
  • Manage a collections portfolio and maintain a PAR30 of below 5% and a PAR15 of below 15% at all times.

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

Preferred qualifications and experience

  • At least a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Project Planning and Management, or Quantitative Economics.
  • Experience with PowerPoint, Excel, and Google Suite.

 

Preferred skills, knowledge & abilities

  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and prioritize tasks. You’ll be asked to conduct research, analyse clients’ credit profiles, source and distribute products, and manage a collections portfolio.
  • A history of taking initiative and exceeding expectations. Results that have proven to go above and beyond what is asked.
  • Inquisitive. You must be able to ask questions and dive deeply into a subject, whether it’s to understand a person’s business or ensure a client’s ability to repay the lease.
  • Quantitatively and qualitatively analytical, with the ability to simultaneously analyse a client’s cash flow while determining whether they’re providing honest and accurate information.
  • Personable and able to create trustworthy relationships with clients and suppliers.
  • Strong time management skills. You set priorities and move quickly from one task to the next.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience in credit analysis with a financial institution.
  • Experience with managing client collections.
  • Experience with a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system.
  • Possess a driver’s licence for both motorcycles and cars.
