Duty Station:  Kampala, Uganda with frequent travel to the field

Reports to: Uganda Country Representative

Number of direct reports: 3

Gross salary: 5m – 6m UGX (dependent on experience)

Job Summary:  The main responsibility of the Programme Manager will be to oversee implementation of all programmes in Uganda, reporting to the Street Child Uganda Country Representative. The role will involve managing the programmes staff and our local partners, to implement high quality programmes. The Programme Manager should have a strong background in implementing predominantly education based programmes.

The ideal candidate would have a strong background in NGO work, good communication

skills, and excellent leadership abilities. Analytical thinking and the capacity to research

innovative intervention methods, as well as creativity and flexibility are also expected.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for making connections and forming relationships with relevant agencies

and members of the local government

  • Organising strategic meetings with relevant agencies and stakeholders
  • Attending all relevant events, such as working group meetings

Working alongside the Uganda Country Representative to ensure the implementation of Street Child Uganda programmes – this will include:

  • Project design – constructing work plans with both SCUG and implementing
  • partners
  • Project delivery – monitoring activities and recording the progress of projects
  • against targets
  • Responsible for overseeing contractors
  • Effective management of those staff that are hired for projects in line with the
  • HR Manual
  • Supervising project activities – recording expenditure against budget
  • Preparation of both narrative and financial reports monthly, quarterly and
  • annually for partners and donors
  • Identifying and reporting issues with programme implementation to Street
  • Child UK as necessary

Responsible for effective management of implementing/local partners:

  • Leading the programmes team to effectively manage and support
  • implementing partners, in collaboration with the finance team;
  • Provide technical support to partners where needed;
  • Undertake sufficient monitoring to identify and respond to any issuesthat exist
  • with partners
  • Working with Street Child UK to identify partnertraining needs and coordinate
  • with the team and partners to conduct capacity building trainings for partner
  • Deliver capacity building training sessions to our partners where needed

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • At least 6 years of experience working for a humanitarian or development NGO, with at least 4 years being with an education-based NGO
  • The ideal applicant must hold a University degree in Education, Humanitarian Aid, Development Studies, Social Work, Social Sciences or related fields
  • Professional training in Education or Education in Emergencies required
  • Qualification in Project Planning and Management will be an added advantage.
  • Proven evidence of having led the delivery of successful programmes
  • Experience working with local partners
  • Experience in line managing at least 6 staff members
  • Strong analytical, reporting, strategic thinking and planning skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong monitoring and evaluation skills/experience
  • Knowledge of project cycle management.
  • Excellent interpersonal, listening and communication skills;
  • Proven coaching and mentoring abilities
  • Ability to positively influence others and successfully reconcile differences;
  • A self-starter with a strong results orientation and with high levels of integrity,
  • credibility and dependability;
  • An energetic team player who can effectively collaborate, and who can stand alone
  • when necessary;
  • Ability to work in international settings and with various departments to implement
  • successful programmes;
  • Demonstrated ability to work and deliver under pressure and on tight deadlines.
