Job Description

International Rescue Committee (IRC), in collaboration with Ibis reproductive health an International Research Organization, Ipas, the African Population Health and Research Center, and the International Rescue Committee, is conducting a study to explore and document girls and women’s experiences with abortion A in humanitarian settings in East Africa.

The team is seeking individuals with experience working on women sexual and reproductive health and rights issues within Bidibidi refugee settlement, preferably for research about sensitive sexual and reproductive health issues.

Duties and Responsibilities

  •  Complete a training in research ethics and an in-person study training
  •  Screening and collecting informed consent documents from eligible study participants
  •  Conduct interviews on all recruited study participants.
  •  Complete, edit and submit all assigned interviews for cross-checking and verification by the supervisor daily.
  •  Keep updated records and databases of assigned work.
  •  Regularly file reports on project activities.
  •  Review the collected data to ensure all questions are completed prior to online submission.
  •  Data collection progress report writing.
  •  Strictly adhere to the study Sops, Protocol GCP guidelines and research ethical principles.
  •  Follow-up with participants for missing responses or correct any inaccurate responses.
  •  Any other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS

The IRC and IRC workers must adhere to the values and principles outlined in the IRC Way – Standards for Professional Conduct. These are Integrity, Service, and Accountability. In accordance with these values, the IRC operates and enforces policies on Beneficiary Protection from Exploitation and Abuse, Child Safeguarding, Anti Workplace Harassment, Fiscal Integrity, and Anti-Retaliation.

Minimum Qualifications

  •  Degree in social sciences or a diploma in any healthy related course.
  •  Having a Certificate in Good clinical practice is an added advantage.
  •  Prior experiencing conducting qualitative interviews, preferably within areas of sexual and reproductive health; experience with conducting interviews on abortion care preferred.
  •  Knowledge of and experience with upholding high ethical standards in the conduct of research.
  •  Strong interest in and support for sexual reproductive health issues including safe abortion
  •  Experience working in humanitarian settings/and or familiarity with the study setting is highly desirable; Preference will be given to qualified applicants residing within Bidibidi refugee settlement.
  •  Proficient in typing, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and use of audio recording equipment is a plus.
  •  Fluent in English and Kakwa or any of the following languages: Arabic or Aringa.
  •  Proven experience in quantitative data collection and electronic data capture will be an added advantage.
  •  Excellent communication and interpersonal and report writing skills.
  •  Strong attention to detail
  •  Be prepared to work full time on the project for the duration of the study.
  •  Open minded and willing to learn new skills and approaches to research
