About US:

USAID Advancing Nutrition (is USAID’s flagship multi-sectoral nutrition project implemented by John Snow Research and Training Institute Inc. The two-year (June 2021-June 2023) aims to support the Government of Uganda to reduce micronutrient deficiencies by improving the quality of diet through strengthening compliance to food fortification standards, enforcement and monitoring. Specifically, the project focuses on the following objectives: 1) increase the capacity of the public sector to enforce food fortification standards and regulations; 2) strengthen the capacity of the private sector to comply with food fortification regulations and standards and increase coverage; 3) strengthen partnerships and stakeholder coordination in food fortification; and 4) raise awareness on the benefits of fortified foods.

 

Background

To strengthen technical assistance & capacity of food processors to scale up production and compliance, USAID Advancing Nutrition in collaboration with Ministry of Trade Industry and Cooperatives (MTIC) intends to conduct onsite theoretical & practical training for targeted food industries.

 

USAID Advancing Nutrition therefore seeks for technical consultants/trainers on food fortification to complement efforts of the Directorate of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises under MTIC to train food processors on food fortification and its application in industrial processes. (maize flour, wheat flour and edible oils and fats). The ideal candidate should have technical knowledge and proven experience in industrial food fortification and food safety, quality assurance & control systems. This position is based in Kampala.

Activities

  • Support the technical teams in preparing theoretical & practical training materials.
  • Conduct onsite theoretical & practical training of targeted food processors on food fortification and its application in industrial processes for maize flour, wheat flour and edible oils & fats.
  • Compile and develop a training report for the onsite training.

Required skills and Experience.

At least two years’ experience working in the maize/wheat flour milling/ edible oils& fats industry in Uganda. Previous training in food fortification and its application in industrial processes.

Good presentation and communication skills. Excellent English language skills, both written and spoken with report writing skills.

 

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Food Science and Technology, Nutrition, Public Health, Food Processing Technology or other relevant discipline. (Diploma in relevant discipline will be considered with 5 years’ experience in the maize/wheat flour milling or edible oils& fats industry)

 

Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible work experience in food fortification or practical & theoretical training in food fortification and its application in industrial processes (maize flour, wheat flour and edible oils & fats)

 

LOE:  Six (6) days.
