Request for Proposals (RFP)

Purpose of RFP:

This document outlines the specifications for interested consultants or firms to undertake a thorough Value Chain Analysis for establishing two briquette production facilities in Nyantonzi and Kasongoire Parishes, Masindi District, Uganda. The analysis aims to pinpoint vital stakeholders, enhance efficiency, minimize costs, and maximize value in setting up these briquette factories.

Project Background:

Under the “Growing Together II” project, Jane Goodall Institute – Uganda, alongside Austrian Development Agency, Jane Goodall Institute Austria, Ecosia, and Likano, plans to establish two briquette production units. These units will address energy challenges, curb deforestation, and enhance local livelihoods in Nyantonzi and Kasongoire Parishes.

Objectives of the Analysis:

  1. Identify and engage with key stakeholders in the briquette production chain.
  2. Assess and optimize the efficiency and effectiveness of the briquette production process.
  3. Explore avenues for cost savings and value enhancement.
  4. Evaluate the sustainability and environmental footprint of the proposed units.
  5. Propose strategies to improve the value chain and ensure successful factory setup.

Scope of Work:

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Map and identify critical stakeholders, from local communities to end-users.
  • Process Evaluation: Analyze the entire briquette production workflow.
  • Infrastructure Review: Examine existing and proposed facilities for the production units.
  • Biomass Resource Assessment: Evaluate the sustainability of biomass resources.
  • Market Study: Analyze local market dynamics for briquettes.
  • Environmental Impact Study: Ensure the project’s adherence to sustainability standards.
  • Capacity Building Needs Analysis: Identify training needs for local participants.
  • Costing Analysis: Provide a detailed financial analysis of the value chain stages.

Deliverables:

  • Comprehensive reports on each aspect of the scope of work.
  • A final, detailed Value Chain Analysis report.

Timeline:

The project is expected to be completed within one month, with periodic progress updates.

Reporting and Feedback:

Draft reports to be submitted for review and feedback before finalization.

Budget Considerations:

The proposal should encompass all costs related to the study.

Expertise Required:

Prospective consultants or firms must have expertise in value chain analysis, environmental assessments, and energy sector experience.

Proposal Evaluation:

Proposals will be evaluated based on qualifications, experience, methodology, and budget. The most comprehensive proposal will be selected.
