About Institute for Open Learning Bachelor of Education: Senior Primary (BESP) Course
Introduction
After exploring the current market needs, IOL opted to design a Bachelor Degree qualification for senior primary teachers.
The proposed curriculum basically applies to the National Professional Standards for Teachers up to an NQA level 8 while observing the national Senior-Primary curriculum. The proposed qualification is a unique Namibian qualification that covers school subject content and their subject didactics as well as management and learner support. This Degree is on par with international qualifications as well as relevant UNAM and NAMCOL qualifications and this promotes mobility of teachers between institutions and qualifications.
This four year distance learning programme addresses a huge need for senior-primary teachers whose training have to remain on par with the latest international trends in the changing teaching arena. This degree also marks a renewed focus for IOL in terms of becoming involved in initial teacher education programmes.
Moreover this 4 year, degree helps to meet the need for more and well qualified senior primary teachers to lay a strong foundation for learners’ future progress. Graduates from the course are equipped to progress to positions of responsibility in senior management, it is a programme designed upon making teachers multi skilled and a versatile work force.
