About Makerere University School of Medicine
Who We are:
The School of Medicine is one of the four Schools that constitute Makerere University College of Health Sciences. The School started as Faculty of Medicine in 1924 and was transformed to the School of Medicine in 2009 with 13 academic departments. The teaching staff are both from Makerere University College of Health Sciences (MakCHS) and the Ministry of Health (MoH). The school’s campus is located on Mulago Hill, Northeast of Kampala. Mulago and Butabika National Referral hospitals are the major teaching hospitals. The School of Medicine has maintained a continued collaboration between Universities abroad and those in Uganda resulting into better research results and service.

We are dedicated to improving the health of the people of Uganda and beyond promoting health equity by providing quality education, research and health services. We achieve this by enhancing capacity and participation of stakeholders; strengthening systems and partnerships; and harnessing the power of new sciences and technology so as to build and sustain excellence and relevance.
