Finnish Refugee Council (FRC) is an INGO promoting adult education and community development among refugees since 1997 as an operational partner to UNHCR and OPM.
Job Summary: The Adult Education Officer will provide adult education to the adult refugees and host communities who did not get the opportunity to go through the formal education system. This position requires a person who has capacity to design learning materials and use them to teach adult learners.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Performance Evaluation (60%)
- Collect and analyse data using FRC designed monitoring and evaluation tools and forms
- Supervise Instructors to ensure learning groups are running as planned
- Set end of course examinations for the learners
- Supervise the making of the end of course examinations by the Instructors
- Arrange for graduation of the learners who have successfully completed their courses
- Provide professional guidance and mentoring of volunteer Instructors and adult learners
Training (20%)
- Implement literacy and English training of adult learners
- Prepare training related activities for non-formal training in adult education at FRC Kampala Office
- Conduct trainings for Literacy and English Instructors
- Arrange practical exercises and projects in support of Literacy and English language training
Community mobilization (10%)
- Engage other operating partners in the mobilization and involvement in the FAL and EFA activities
- Mobilise and motivate adult learners to join the learners’ groups in the community
- Identify the potential Instructors in the community to facilitate adult learning in the area of operation
Innovation (10%)
- Create participation and functionality methods of teaching
- Develop appropriate learning materials to promote participation and functionality among leaners
- Establish, record and maintain mobile library box circulation among FAL and EFA groups at the settlement and sub-county
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the Adult Education Officer job must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Adult Education /Pedagogy or Community Development with strong experience in adult education and literacy.
- Previous experience on training, material development, participatory assessments.
- Two years’ professional adult education work experience with communities.
- Should be flexible, innovative, with good record keeping, report compilation, communication, and interpersonal and team work skills.
- A self-starter, and able to work with minimum supervision.
- Able to work under pressure with competing deadlines.
- Able to work with a multi-cultural environment within the organization.
