African Rural University Curriculum

Emerging from the work of the acclaimed Uganda Rural Development and Training Programme (URDT), the curriculum has been developed and tested with student researchers over the last four years under an Interim Letter of Authority from the NCHE.

The women student researchers gained academic knowledge on the many dimensions of rural transformation. They have the skills to facilitate visioning activities, to understand organizational systems, to do community action planning and to facilitate community dialogues. They have practical experience in process facilitation, community mobilization, farm planning, agribusiness development, appropriate technologies, rural micro finance, extension programmes, functional adult literacy programmes, preventive health care and in producing and presenting radio programs and videos.

During their Internships, these researcher/students had impact across 177 villages of 95,000 individuals. They documented their work through the analysis of the changes between baseline and subsequent data collections, qualitative analysis, videos, writing and radio programmes.
