African Rural University (ARU) has so far brought together and trained female students from different parts of Uganda with backgrounds varying from arts, humanities and social sciences. ARU’s first batch of graduates was purposely referred to as “researcher- students” – these helped in the initial stages of designing the current curriculum popularly known as Rural Development. Please note that ARU’s web page continuously displays the researcher students during their community practice – this is a popular “one year hands on field work in rural communities in Kibaale District ” that makes ARU graduates earn the prestigious title “Rural Transformation Specialist (RTS)”.
The “researcher students” were recognized as graduates “honoris causa” on 09th May 2009 by Unity College of USA. They are currently employed as “Epi-centre Managers” by Uganda Rural Development and Training Programme (URDT) – the founding mother of African Rural University. That is, URDT has deployed them in various Sub-county satellite stations within Kibaale District to induce rural development in Kibaale District.
These Epi-Centre Managers shall graduate with an ARU’s degree of Bachelor of Rural Development(BRD) after 2014/2015 together with the current and official pioneer students (2011/2012). To ensure quality assurance and as they wait for graduation, the Epi-Centre Managers occasionally have to attend specially designed face-to-face remedial classes at ARU. Below is a list of the URDT 17 Epi-Centre Managers plus the sub-counties of their deployment in the District.
