ARU Library Services
Ardhi University library serves the information needs of undergraduate, and postgraduate students, lecturers, researchers, and practicing professionals within the framework of the existing six schools namely: School of Architecture and Design (SADE); School of Real Estate Studies (SRES); School of Construction Economics and Management (SCEM); School of Urban and Regional Planning (SURP); School of Environmental Science and Technology (SEST)and; School of Geomatics Science and Technology (SGST).
The Library also caters for information needs of researchers in the aspects of human settlements, which are carried out and coordinated by the Institute of Human Settlement Studies (IHSS) and programmes of continuing education coordinated by Centre for Continuing Education (CCE). In regard to the widening of the University programmes and increase in enrolment of students has called for equipping the library with materials and resources that can proactively respond to the current library users’ information needs within the overall new responsibilities of the library which include the provision of information, services, and materials to support learning, teaching, research, and consultancy services.
The library also has computer facilities with internet connections for the library users’ convenience, in a calm and relaxing environment, conducive for studying.
Library collection
The University Library collections and resources consists of print, none print materials and various ICT equipments. The library acquires most of its reading materials through purchases from the University budget and donations. The recent stock taking shows that the library has 13,233 volumes of books and periodical titles and 10 news paper titles.
The library has a close link with worldwide known books and journals donors such as Book Aid International (London), ITC of Netherlands, , individuals, institutions and publishers. Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) which sponsors the INASP electronic Journals programme of which Ardhi University is the member institution under the umbrella of Consortium of Tanzania Universities and Research Libraries (COTUL) which successfully managed to subscribe about INASP e-resources.
At the moment the library has 85 sets of computers. Some of these computers are used for browsing materials from databases; internet and email services for students and staff and a few are used for administrative purposes. There is also a photocopy service which is privately owned.
