About Us:

The Busara Center for Behavioral Economics is an advisory and research organization focused on evaluation and implementation of behavioral interventions in understudied countries and populations. Busara’s mission is to work with researchers and organizations to advance and apply behavioral science in pursuit of poverty alleviation. This involves the application of research and rigorous methods to enable partners to improve program design, evaluate existing programs, and optimize internal processes. To this end, Busara has worked with a variety of organizations in an advisory capacity to apply behavioral insights, build analytical models, and develop new products. In addition, in its research center capacity, Busara operates a Nairobi-based lab capable of implementing advanced experiments in psychology, behavioraleconomics and other academic disciplines. We are now operating in Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia and Nigeria, as well as Kenya. That’s all in pursuit of our twin missions of advancing behavioral science and alleviating poverty.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:   

  • The jobholder will design and develop research and advisory projects focused on using behavioral science to alleviate global poverty
  • The incumbent will recruit partners from academic institutions, development banks, large NGOs, private companies and social enterprises and manage the relationships
  • Implement qualitative and quantitative behavioral research
  • Develop and pilot instruments
  • Manage large scale field and lab projects with leading academics and institutions
  • Organise, clean and analyse data
  • Disseminate results, prepare project reports and present results
  • Design future scope of works
  • Live, travel and work in East Africa with a base in Nairobi

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:  

  • The applicants for the Busara Centre Associate jobs must hold bachelor’s degrees in economics, social sciences, public policy, or related fields. Other fields will be considered. Possession of a Master’s degree in economics, social sciences, public policy, or related fields is desired
  • One to three years of experience in a related field
  • Excellent management and organizational skills
  • Interest and experience working in a fast-paced working environment
  • Flexible, self-motivating, able to manage multiple tasks efficiently, a team player
  • Demonstrated ability to manage high-level relationships with partner organizations
  • Strong quantitative skills including knowledge of and experience working with data analysis software
  • Previous experience managing and mentoring staff is desired
  • Familiarity with and interest in behavioral economics or science
  • Fluency and excellent communication skills in English
