Background of Tumu Medical Institute

Back ground
Buhweju District where the hospital is located was until recently under Bushenyi District. The local government did not look at this area as a priority in terms of services especially Health care and Roads. It is until last year (2010), when the movement government under the charismatic leadership of H.E. Yoweri Museveni, granted this county A district Status. It is from this back ground that the shareholders of TUMU Group Companies, developed the desire to compliment government efforts in providing services by setting up this Modern Hospital. With this facility, we are sure that government can concentrate on other services like Roads.

Shareholding:
The shareholding of the Hospital is under Mr.and Mrs. Johnson Tumusiime who hail from the same location of the Hospital. The Hospital is a member of Tumu Of Group of Companies Ltd which has the following companies:

Tumu Farms Ltd
Tumu Hospital
And the Group has interests in Roads and Bridges Construction In Sudan.

We are inspired by Christian principle of serving all mankind above our personal interests hence our Motto “ Serving God’s people above self. That’s why despite the heavy costs of investing in the rural areas, the shareholders decided to invest in the rural Buhweju. This principle is embeded in the service we offer to our clients. Our staff take the life of a patient before any thing else. However, despite having a christian background, we don’t descrimate in terms of patients and in the recruitment process. That’s why, our Head Doctor is a Muslim.

Objectives
To provide the curative services to patients referred by other health units, and those requesting assistance.
To provide preventive health care services and education to the community
To ensure that the services are financially accessible for the vulnerable and less privileged, pregnant women, Children and the elderly.
To plan, budget and manage the services in a cost effective and sustainable manner
To initiate and promote research in health
To train the rural people into reliable health workers through trainings and studies such as diploma and certificate courses.
