Background of Uganda Institute of Social Work and Community Development

UISWCD History

Uganda Institute of Social Work and Community Development (UISWCD) was given birth to by practical trainings in community development, conducted by an NGO known as Community Development Concerns Initiative (CDCI) in 2012. Backed by the desire to be recognized by the National Council for Higher Education and the Ministry of Education and Sports, CDCI moved out of Makerere University Hall where it used to train from and got an independent premise at Mengo and Uganda Institute of Social Work and Community Development registered with Registrar of Companies and all practical training courses were formalized into required curriculums/programs and submitted to Nayional Council for Higher Education Accreditation and Quality Assurance Committee.
This was done in order to enable the organization carry out effective training which at the time was requisite for community transformation. The institute now being at its infant stages offers a wide range of academic and research programmes concentrating mainly on Social Sciences, Humanities, Arts and even Business.
The mandate of the institute is to coordinate the implementation of its own policies, and to achieve the objectives and goals that have been set and agreed upon.
