Mengo Hospital was founded in 1897 in Kampala, and is the oldest hospital in Uganda. It currently serves as an urban community hospital that provides modern medical care. Mengo Hospital provides comprehensive care including radiology, obstetrics,dentistry, orthopedics, nd surgery. Additionally, Mengo Hospital provides critical training and education to health professionals through its various programs in midwifery and nursing, health sciences, and laboratory technology. Mengo Hospital also has a dedicated research and development team that works to find new solutions to health issues in Uganda.
Job Summary: It is the primary objective of the CDSO to drive growth and strategic renewal by transforming the company’s analogue business into a robust digital one and shall be the driving force behind the company’s digital transformation. The CDSO leads the digitization of the institution and guides and oversees the end-to-end delivery of projects and to create value through the smart use of data and technology. Reporting to the MD, the CDSO is primarily responsible to collaborate with and support the MD to assure effective risk management combined with the efficient, productive, and profitable operations of all business activities. In addition, the CDSO will provide direct executive oversight to the Distribution, IT and Project Management Offices and Operations (i.e., the noted department heads will report directly to the CDSO).
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning & Management – supports oversight of the planning, drafting and implementation of the Company’s strategic and business plans and budgets including (i) setting strategic and financial objectives, (ii) recommending annual budgets for Board approval, (iii) prudently managing all resources within budget parameters and according to policies and statutory requirements, and
- Risk Management – supports oversight of the development and implementation of a risk management framework (i.e. credit, liquidity, interest rates, foreign exchange, transaction, fraud, business continuity, compliance, legal, governance, reputation, and external business risks) ensuring key risk related performance indicators are effectively managed within the prescribed limits;
- Human Resources Management – provides strong leadership and effectively manages human resources according to authorized personnel policies and procedures that fully conform to statutory requirements.;
- Community, Public & Stakeholder Relations – ensures the company vision, mission and values together with its products and services are consistently presented in a strong and positive image to all relevant stakeholders and supports oversight of the funding/fundraising planning and implementation, including identifying resource requirements, researching funding sources, establishing strategies to approach funders, submitting proposals and administrating fundraising records and documentation.
- Support the design and implementation of the strategic plan to advance its mission and objectives and to promote revenue, profitability, growth and a strong and clear institutional and organizational culture;
- Drive digital innovation and serve as a cross-functional change agent across the organization;
- Set and implement the digital strategy by working with cross-functional partners to map and transition traditional processes to digital ones;
- Measure ROI on projects, fine-tuning approaches as needed to ensure that the company is investing in the right tools and resources;
- Support the oversight of planning, development, and implementation of strategies for generating resources and/or revenues;
- Support the development of long-term organizational strategy;
- Conduct research and analyses of operational effectiveness, processes, stakeholders, etc.
- Assess market trends and competitors and lead organisational response to market changes;
- Plan, implement, manage and report on projects;
- Supporting and guiding senior executive decision-making processes with respect to digital initiatives.;
- Lead the digital transformation through continuously improving the effectiveness and impact of the digital channels.;
- Lead resource planning, management, reporting and coordination of projects/initiatives to deliver change in line with availability and business requirements.;
- Ensure best practices and processes across the digital team for the consistent delivery of defined results.;
- Research solutions and make recommendations for the improvement of systems and infrastructure.
- Ensure teams are delivering to a common plan and purpose, and that risks and issues are well-managed.;
- Identifying new tools – AI, digital, CRM – that can support, enhance and improve our organisation-wide solutions;
- Support the recommending of policies and standards for Board approval;
- Review activity reports and financial statements to determine progress and status in attaining objectives and revise objectives and plans in accordance with current conditions as required;
- Evaluate performance of direct reports for compliance with established policies and achievement of key performance objectives and their individual contributions in attaining objectives as defined in their key results expectations (KREs);
- Promote the company through written articles and personal profiling as appropriate;
- Represent the company with regulators and through related sector meetings and at formal functions;
- Perform any other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the MD.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance or Accounting, IT, Computer Science or Engineering – Master’s Degree advantageous.
- At least ten years progressive senior / executive management experience in a financial institution.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines;
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills;
- Excellent interpersonal skills;
- Excellent problem solving skills;
- Intermediate competence with Microsoft Office Suite;
- Extremely strong leadership, management and team building skills.
