About US:
The Uganda Law Reform Commission is established under Article 248(1) of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda. Its primary mandate is to study and keep under constant review the Acts and all other laws comprising the laws of Uganda with a view to making recommendations for their systematic improvement, development, modernisation and reform.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- The Commissioner will be responsible for heading the Law Revision Department;
- Tasked with proposing programmes for law revision for approval by the Commission
- In charge of planning and reviewing work programmes for the Law Revision Department for approval by the Commission;
- Responsible for coordinating activities of the department with other Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies;
- Conducting sensitization of stakeholders on activities of the Commission;
- In charge of developing work plans and budgets for the departments;
- Tasked with implementing and appraising national development strategies and projects in relation to law revision;
- Supervising, directing and evaluating performance of subordinate staff of the department;
- Providing professional leadership in the department;
- Overseeing staff development strategies;
- Monitoring and evaluating the implementation of departmentalactivities;
- Performing any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate must hold an honours bachelor’s degree in lawfrom a recognised university and a Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre. Possession of a relevant Masters’ degree will be an added advantage.
- At least ten (10) years of relevant working experience, three (3) of which should be at the level of Assistant Commissioner in Government or equivalent experience from a reputable organisation.
- Possession of a certificate of training in legislative drafting.
- Good computer skills.
- Knowledge of project planning and management.
- Age: 35 years and above
