About DFID CASA Project:
RTI is currently seeking candidates for an anticipated Department for International Development (DFID) funded Commercial Agriculture for Smallholders and Agribusiness Project, a 5-year, £30 million project. CASA is intended to increase sustainable investment in agribusinesses with smallholder supply chains and increase the involvement of poorer smallholders in those supply chains. CASA will increase economic opportunities for smallholder famers by: demonstrating the commercial viability of agribusinesses with significant smallholder supply chains; deepen the smallholder impact of investments by investors; and enable more smallholder farmers to engage with commercial markets.
Job Summary: The Country Director will be responsible for project operations in Uganda with sesame and beans as the two target value chains. Reports to the CASA Chief of Party and will liaise with support other members of the project management team
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides vision, direction, strategic leadership and management for CASA’s country-level interventions, learning and communication.
- Spearheads the application of evidence and learning through knowledge sharing and peer learning efforts, capacity strengthening, stakeholder consultation.
- Manages relationships with DFID country managers and, along with CASA technical specialists, serves as primary liaison with project stakeholders and the private sector.
- Ensures internal integration of project activities with the CASA overall plans through: 1) the annual work plan and budgeting process; 2) creating/maintaining an effective project management team; 3) overseeing an effective monitoring and evaluation system.
- Ensures effective coordination and synergies between policy –level, market level, and community-based activities, while managing heavy procurements, deliveries and other related logistical actions.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Master’s degree in or PhD in Economics, Agriculture, Business, International Development or related field and a minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience
- Previous experience in agricultural value chain development in Uganda, knowledge management, organizational capacity development and partnership development with the private sector, famer-based organizations, policy advocacy, national and district governments, donors and donor organizations.
- Proven ability to lead diverse teams of highly experienced professionals.
- Knowledgeable and experienced with DFID policies and procedures.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Excellent communication abilities (verbal and written).
- Ability to travel within Uganda and internationally.
