CSIR Bursaries | Bursaries in South Africa
The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) is Africa’s leading scientific research and development organization; one which has implemented several projects throughout the continent in support of cutting-edge science, engineering, and technology (SET).
In order to continue to achieve their goals, CSIR bursaries are offered to individuals who are bright, passionate about research and committed to the pursuit of innovation as well as excellence. Apart from simply helping to educate the youth, they are looking to add highly-skilled members to their team, and as such, aim for permanent employment within the CSIR after successful graduation.
FIELDS OF STUDY
CSIR’s bursary program is applicable to both undergraduate, and honor levels fields.
Candidates applying to the University of Technology can only apply for BTech bursaries. All bursaries awarded will be for full-time study at an accredited South African University towards a degree.
REQUIREMENTS FOR CSIR BURSARIES APPLICATION
Individuals who wish to apply must meet the following basic criteria:
- Be a South African citizen
- Have enrolled or planning to enroll at a South African university for the following year
- English at level 5 for Grade 11
- Mathematics and Physical Science at level 6 for Grade 11
- Enrolling for a BEng or BSc full-time at accredited tertiary Institute
- Honor Bursary candidates must have passed all current courses for period of study already completed
- Willing to work in a diverse environment
Take note that in accordance with the CSIR’s commitment to the Employment Equity Act of 1998, preference will be given to applicants who come from previously disadvantaged backgrounds, as well as people living with disabilities.
The imperative need for an increase of women within the science and engineering industry will also be considered during the selection process.
CSIR BURSARIES PACKAGE
This bursary package is a comprehensive one, ensuring full support to the bursars; that includes:
- Registration fees
- Tuition
- Books
- Accommodation
- Living Allowance
- Laptop Allowance
In addition to the costs of studying, CSIR also seeks to support the candidates on a more personal level, thus, offering mentorship opportunities. And to help students ready themselves for what lay ahead in terms of employment after graduation, vacation work is also offered.
HOW TO APPLY FOR THE CSIR BURSARIES?
Prospective candidates can either visit the website or email bursaryprogramme@csir.co.za .
Applying is very easy. After selecting the bursary option for the particular field, candidates must then simply accept the terms and conditions and submit. An email will be sent as the confirmation of receipt.
All applications must be submitted before the designated CSIR closing date of 19 June in order to be considered.
If there is no contact within a month after the closing date, please consider the application unsuccessful.
