Action Against Hunger (ACF) is an International Humanitarian NGO which has been in existence for over thirty years. ACF has been implementing Food Security and Livelihoods, Nutrition, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene programs in the Lango, Acholi, West Nile and Karamoja regions of Northern Uganda.

Job Summary:  The Data Clerk will support data collection and reporting activities to ensure the quality and accountability of the programs implemented by Action Against Hunger.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

Support data collection and Enter Data

  • Prepare source data for computer entry by compiling and sorting information; establishing entry priorities.
  • On a daily basis enter nutritional data and beneficiary lists in to the data bases
  • Verify data by reviewing, correcting, deleting, or reentering data; combining data from multiple sources when needed; purging files to eliminate duplication of data.
  • Enter new and updated information in a timely manner, in alignment with the schedules and keep immediate supervisor informed of progress
  • Occasionally required to participate in data collection and report outcomes to immediate supervisor
  • Attend all data related trainings and participate in research activities including providing support to research teams as required

Analyze Data

  • Process and validate source documents by reviewing data for completeness and accuracy; resolving inconsistencies by using standard procedures or returning incomplete documents to the program team and M&E Officer.
  • Derive elaborative statistical tables especially using excel pivot, excel analyzer, Access, ENA/NACs
  • Produce word format report on results when needed
  • Test new system changes and upgrades by inputting new data and reviewing output.
  • Produce weekly trend analysis of project progress

File Data

  • Secure information by completing data base backups in one central location with the M&E Officer.
  • File and archive questionnaire in hard/paper copy and computer electronic copy of data collected
  • Code beneficiary names and lists appropriately
  • Keep minutes of the program meetings and regular reports
  • Classify base files for onward submission for archives

Reporting and Documentation

  • Transmit electronic data to the M&E Officer
  • Submit monthly report to supervisor in a timely manner
  • Uphold quality checks at all times to eliminate errors in data captured and shared
  • Maintain confidentiality of all data in his custody.
  • Focus attention to detail and pose queries to / inform field teams of areas that need improvement for immediate correction.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The ideal candidate for the Action Against Hunger (ACF) Data Clerk job must hold a Diploma in statistics, Information Technology, Computer Science, and Secretarial Studies, Records Management or related disciplines.
  • One year of experience in supporting research, data collection, data entry or nutrition project implementation in a busy organizational setting.
  • You are proficient in relevant computer applications, particularly MS Word, MS Excel and Access. Proficiency in NACs/ ENA, a strong advantage;
  • You have strong computer-related skills, including typing, scanning, e-mailing, file uploading, file management;
  • You have ability and Willingness to ride motorbikes
  • You have excellent spoken and written communication skills in English.
  • You pay attention to detail; flexibility and team work
  • You are extremely organized and can work independently.
  • You have ability to meet strict deadlines with strong ability to keep confidentiality of organization information
