UGAFODE Microfinance Limited (MDI) is a registered financial institution in Uganda and is adherent to the Central Bank’s regulations and guidelines and was founded in 1994 to provide quality microfinance services.
Job Summary: Responsible for the optimizing performance, integrity and security of a database through planning and development of the database and troubleshooting (including backup and data recovery) on behalf of the users in line with compliance and risk perspectives.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Analyses user needs: Establishes the needs of users (specifications) so as to refine the logical design so that it can be translated into a specific data model (designing and or redesigning parameters).
- Control parameters: Instituting control parameters on the database table so as to control access permissions and privileges (segregate of user duties) in the database.
- User rights management: Ensures that users have enabling rights (control access) to do what and only what they are supposed to do in the system as per compliance to ICT processes and internal user matrix of the bank.
- Documentation & reporting: Maintains and manages system documents for auditing purposes as well as developing both system and manual reports for new system designs and implementation.
- Ensure Compliance: Operating in total adherence to all ICT operational process requirements regarding database management and within; Risk, SLAs, Ethical and Audit Compliance.
- System capacity planning: Analyzing and allocating system storage and planning for storage requirements for the database system to optimize system performance and making predictions about future needs.
- Support with Training: Conduct and manage trainings for team, staff and users on all new software systems developed, new users and refreshers to existing users with the aim of optimizing system performance, integrity and security of the database.
- Core banking system support:
- Monitoring System performance: Monitors performance and manages parameters in order to provide fast responses to both bank front and end users of the system and as part of the on-going system maintenance to make configuration changes to the software or to add additional hardware capacity if required.
- Business Continuity: implementing backup and recovery plans and procedures based on industry best practices, managing the security and disaster recovery aspects of a database through planning for backup & recovery of database information, Maintaining archived data as well as restoration of such databases.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree/Diploma in Computer Science, MIS or equivalent.
- IBM Certified Advanced Database Administrator- DB2 10.1 for Linux, Unix and Windows OR IBM Certified Database Administrator- DB2 10.1 for Linux, Unix, and Windows
- At least 3 years’ working experience in microfinance /banking computer systems / ICT Operation with a clear understanding of business processes & constraints.
- Knowledge of Oracle or and SQL Server support.
- Working knowledge of some or all of the following: Windows 7 to 10, Windows Server 2012, Microsoft Exchange 2012, SharePoint, VMware ESXi 6, Web hosting technologies, Microsoft Office Products, Unix and/or Oracle
- General Attributes: Analytical capabilities and attention to detail, Ingenuity and creativity, Logical approach to problem solving, the ability to work well under pressure, Tenacity and patience, Communication skills – including the ability to convey information to non-technical colleagues in a concise and clear way.
