Youth Alive Uganda, a leading NGO in innovative children, adolescents, and youth integrated development programming, is seeking a Database Administrator to join their team in Kampala, Uganda. The position reports to the Director of Programs and the Gender & Youth Advisor.

About Youth Alive Uganda: Youth Alive Uganda focuses on health, livelihood, education, human rights, skills development, and mentorship, implementing various programs across the country.

Job Summary: The Database Administrator will be responsible for the daily management and maintenance of databases, ensuring their effective functioning for program implementation. This includes designing, updating, managing complex database systems, troubleshooting issues, and implementing database replication.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure timely data collection, entry, and review.
  • Track the utilization of data collection tools and work with the M&E officer to build field capacity.
  • Ensure quarterly OVCMIS reports are compiled and submitted.
  • Maintain up-to-date databases for all beneficiaries and households.
  • Support program staff with data requests and report preparation.
  • Comply with confidentiality, data integrity, and security policies.
  • Provide technical support in implementing the 5 pillars of the 5X3 PEPFAR strategy in OVC programming.
  • Manage database systems design, usage, and data for decision making.
  • Collaborate with the Database Analytics Specialist/MEL functions for database integration and data auto-population.
  • Engage with the database administrators and DHIS2 users community.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, information technology, computer science/engineering, or related field.
  • 3-5 years of professional experience with an INGO or public sector.
  • Expertise in DHIS2, MYSQL, JSONPath, JSPath, Lodash, Underscore, JPath, and cloud-based data management.
  • Knowledge of DHIS2’s API and SQL.
  • Strong facilitation, teaching, and coaching skills.
  • Experience with Comcare or other ODK-based mobile data collection software is desirable.
  • Knowledge in MERL principles, data mining, analytics, and visualization skills.
  • Experience with programming languages (R, Python, SPSS modeler), qualitative analysis software, GIS systems, or data visualization software.
