Course Objective: 

In today’s highly competitive business environment, the roles and responsibilities of human resource professionals have become increasingly critical for corporate success. Therefore, the industry requires young managers at different levels in the areas of finance, Human Resources, Marketing Production etc. The curriculum puts significant emphasis on the ability of the students to have an integrated view of management and apply them to the real life situations. It lays emphasis on taking decisions and developing focused education combined with practical into effective managers with good communication skills and leadership capabilities. The attributes that ingrained in them are knowledgeable skills, values and attitudes.

The Diploma course therefore is geared to providing an opportunity for such people to have completed “A” Level and the Certificate course with knowledge in business that will enable them to be employed gainfully. It can be also be an avenue for academic growth where people without the minimum 2 principles passes to enter the University can join on passing the Diploma program and those who don’t have enough Income to join the Degree programs directly.
Objectives:
Upon completion of the course the students are expected to:
• Work in a variety of human resource positions and be able to assume greater levels of responsibility as they grow in their human resource capability.
• Understand and comply with the employer’s legislative and legal obligations including workplace health and safety regulation, the Worker’s Compensation Act, payroll compliance legislation, and employment standards.
• Conduct organizational needs assessments, analyze and modify organizational staff development plans and develop effective recruitment strategies to attract talent that satisfies the organizational objectives.
• Foster a work environment that promotes productivity and employee satisfaction
• Evaluate performance and communicate performance issues in a manner that encourages responsible and corrective action and manage disciplinary action proactively and thoroughly.
• Understand the elements of a total compensation package that align with an organizational recruitment and retention strategy, develop compensation policies and procedures, procure benefits, and analyze employee and organizational pension requirements.
• Exercise sound financial decision-making and budgeting skills.

Course Methodology: 

To enable students to take full advantage of their study experience and to better prepare them for future managerial employment and further study in the HRM field, course delivery is structured to be: Student and Assessment-focused, and ‘Real-world’ oriented, allowing students to relate their learning to their own experiences and to the wider business world around them.

The programme is delivered in the form of lectures guest presentations, group discussion, individual and group exercises (including role playing exercises), videos, case study analysis, and topic-specific workshops/seminars. The nature of the module is essentially participative.

To gain maximum benefit, students read the relevant chapters/articles highlighted by the Course Leader in advance, and generally keep abreast of what is going on in the wider business environment through the use of relevant media such as television/radio, newspapers, websites, magazines, and journals. Student contact is also warmly welcomed on the course.
