Job Summary:

We are seeking a Medical Officer specializing in Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Integrated Services, to join our Multicountry Assignment Teams (MCATs) in various locations, including Uganda. This role is pivotal in providing technical leadership in the prevention and control of NCDs and mental disorders, integrating NCD services into health systems to achieve Universal Health Care.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead in the prevention and control of NCDs and mental disorders, even in emergency situations.
  • Implement cross-border collaborative mechanisms, addressing multiple issues and documenting best practices.
  • Develop and implement cross-cutting guidelines, medicines, and technology for NCD services.
  • Build Member States’ capacity for essential NCD and mental health services.
  • Foster research and promote innovations in integrated NCD service delivery.
  • Strengthen surveillance and monitoring of NCDs, risk factors, and mental health.
  • Collaborate with national officials, WHO staff, and partners to adapt and implement WHO technical packages.
  • Advocate for and support the inclusion of NCDs and mental disorders in national health surveillance systems.
  • Support countries in developing NCD and mental health policies, strategies, and plans.
  • Mobilize resources for integrated NCD and mental disorder management.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • Medical degree with a post-graduate degree in public health or specialization in one of the four major NCDs.
  • An advanced university degree in a health-related field is desirable.
  • A minimum of 7 years’ experience in NCDs prevention and management at the international and national level.
  • Expert knowledge of English or French, with a good working knowledge of the other. Intermediate knowledge of Portuguese is desirable.
  • Proficiency in computer literacy and eHealth tools.

Remuneration:

  • The annual base salary starts at USD 77,326, subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance.
  • Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
