ECUREI Bachelors of Medical Imaging (BMI) Course

The title of the program is Bachelors in Medical Imaging (BMI). The course code is BMI. This is a four year program. Every academic year consists of 2 semesters, each semester lasting 19 weeks. The program shall be governed by the general regulations of the Institute. 

All course units in the program shall be compulsory and therefore, the students shall be required to register and pass all of them before the award of the Degree.

Admission requirements

Direct Entry 
Direct entrants with a minimum of 2 principal passes in approved science subjects at the same sitting of the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) examination or its equivalent.  Essential subjects shall be Biology and Physics and the relevant subject shall be one better done of mathematics and Chemistry. Students who have sat UACE should have also met the minimum requirements of the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) at ordinary level.

Diploma Entry

Post-Basic entrants 
Applicants holding a Diploma in Radiography or its equivalent from a recognized institution shall be admitted, and exempted from the course units they have already undertaken and passed as long as their academic transcript clearly indicates the scores and grades of the relevant courses, provided the course content of the units in question is similar to that in the courses offered by ECUREI.   This exemption will also imply that these Post- Basic entrants don’t study all the 4 stipulated years as for the Direct Entrants from high school. The degree offered to these Post-Basic entrants shall remain the BMI.

Other diplomas
Holders of a diploma or degree in other health fields shall be considered for admission provided they have academic background relevant to Radiography.
Exemption of a course will be given to an applicant who has evidence that he has passed a course with similar content in another institution.

Degree Holders Entry Scheme
Degree holders in Biomedical Sciences shall be considered for admission. They will be exempted from the courses they have already covered provided these courses have similar course content and the student has passed the courses.

Course duration
The Degree in medical imaging shall last a minimum of four years. Each year shall consist of 2 semesters.

Length of a semester: 
A semester shall constitute 19 weeks, for which 17 weeks are for teaching and 2 weeks for examinations.
