The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is a neutral and independent international humanitarian organisation, which assists and protects victims of armed conflicts and other situations of violence.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Organise and carry out communication activities with the army, police, national authorities and academics such as specially tailored presentations and workshops, provision and production of reference materials on International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and Human Rights (HR) Law (such as Power Points or leaflets).
- Develop and maintain networks with influential members of the above mentioned target audiences.
- Participate in external meetings, conferences and forum.
- Strictly apply the financial and administrative procedures.
- Ensure adequate reporting within ICRC on the activities in writing (e.g. contribution to periodical institutional reports such as BFR) or orally (e.g. during delegation meetings).
- Work closely with to ensure regular and smooth information flow and coordination of activities with Communication colleagues in Geneva and in other relevant delegations.
- Draft minutes of meetings.
- Actively participates in internal meetings and in the reflection of the delegation on general operational priorities.
- Tasked with ensuring the awareness of the delegation’s objectives and activities.
- Understanding the components of the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement.
- Applies the security rules at all times.
- Respects and observes all staff regulations/procedures of the ICRC in Uganda.
- Perform any other duties and tasks that may be assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Communications Officer career opportunity should hold a Degree in International law, International relations or Political science. Any academic specialisation or Masters in International Humanitarian Law and/or Human Rights Law or minimum 6 months on-the-job exposure to this body of law is an asset.
- At least two to three years’ experience in International law, International relations or a similar area.
- Previous experience with an International Organisation is an asset.
- Fluent communication skills and command of spoken and written English.
- Knowledge of Swahili is required.
- Confirmed computer skills especially in word processors, spreadsheets and power point.
- Excellent planning, organizational, reporting and analytical skills. Sense of responsibility and ability to take initiative and to work independently.
