Job Summary: The EO – Special Needs Education (Braille) will carry out field implementation of activities relating to examinations modifications as per the access arrangements required and assisting in monitoring the examinations and assessment needs affecting candidates with special educational needs.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervising the production of Braille Examinations at the Printery, Braille Production Unit.
- Participating in the development and production of the SNE assessment and examinations Policy of the Board.
- Assisting in managing the identification, registration and examinations access arrangements processes to enable candidates with SENs sit the examinations with relative ease.
- Participating in the provision of professional guidance on selection, recruitment, training and deployment of various SNE Support Personnel like Transcribers, Sign Language Interpreters, Amanuensis, Audio Recording Assistants, Readers for candidates with SENs.
- Assisting in providing professional advice on the conduct of Psycho-Educational Assessment for candidates with special educational needs.
- Conducting as instructed, continuous professional SNE examinations awareness campaigns within the Secretariat and outside amongst the relevant stakeholders like Scouts, Invigilators, Supervisors.
- Assisting as instructed in the preparation of the SNE Section’s quarterly and or annual operational reports in line with the section work plan and strategic plan.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold an Hons Bachelor’s degree in either special needs education Visual Impairment Option or Arts /Sciences with a post graduate diploma in special needs education Visual Impairment Option or the equivalent.
- Registered teacher with at least 3 years of teaching experience.
- At least three years’ experience in special needs examinations management or related work in a reputable special needs educational institution
- High sense of empathy.
- Professional Braille reading and writing skills
- Special needs examinations management abilities.
- Excellent coordination, interpersonal and supervisory skills.
- Computer skills especially in word processing, and spreadsheets
- Computerized Braille (Duxbury Braille Translation – DBT).
- High degree of confidentiality and integrity
- Age limit: 35 – 45 years
