Job Summary: Drivers are part of the support function that ensure timely delivery of items and safe transportation of staff, however because sometimes the activities are overwhelming to be handled by the fulltime drivers, this leaves us with the option of using temporary or On-call drivers.
The purpose of this role is to offer professional driving service to PIU team, the On-call drivers are to be used on as is basis whenever there is shortage of driver human resource to adequately support the planned activities.
The on-call driver will be called to provide driving services usually in times when a driver is on leave, due to sickness, grants that have no hire options, surge in activities during the critical implementation period and when it’s for the good of the organization image and security purposes
The on-call driver will ensure a safe and comfortable travel, defensive while on the road, positive image of the organization and ultimately cost reduction element as their as minimal costs incurred as opposed to hiring of vehicle.
The on-call driver shall be called or emailed when she is needed to provide support and once at the office, she will log/register in separate book as part knowing the days accrued to her,
The on-call driver shall work for a certain number of days (15) in a month. With the on-drivers on board more travel efficiency and cost saving are expected to be realized in the organization.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure the provision of transport services that will support PIU’s staff in a safe, healthy, secure and environmentally sensitive manner; Support office administration:
- Observe and adhere to the safety precautions before and during driving considering prevailing weather and driving conditions to avoid accidents
- Drive vehicles carefully and safely in accordance with the traffic laws and regulations of Uganda, and with PIU policies and procedures including the fleet management manual
- Give attention to the physical wellbeing of passengers, providing comfort breaks and other assistance as required; at all times treating passengers with courtesy and friendliness
- Deliver and collect mail and other documents to and from various offices, post office regularly and ensure its safety as and when requested
- Carry out daily inspection checks to ensure that the vehicle is in good running order with valid insurance policies; record any cases requiring future action
- Ensuring that vehicles are equipped with all necessary breakdown and safety equipment and that such are in full working order
- Keep the vehicle in a clean condition in order to uphold the image of PIU and for the convenience of the users
- Ensure vehicle records are kept up to date, and timely reports submitted:
- Accurately record the place information on Kobo and complete the vehicle usage record to indicate vehicle movement.
- Make motor vehicle monthly fuel reconciliations, reports and fleet compliance reports
- Identify and report all mechanical faults and any accidents immediately to the supervisor so that appropriate action is taken.
- Work with other staff to promote team work and good working environment within the work place and organization
- To be ready to travel to any location within PIU program area of operation.
- Comply with Plan International policies and guidelines
- Any role as shall be assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold an O’ level certificate
- Clean and Valid driving License for classes B, B1 & D1, with no penalties
- A certificate in Defensive Driving is desirable
- A certificate in Customer care is an added advantage
- Certificate in First Aid is desirable
- Three or more years of experience working as a driver, in relatively large organizations of similar complexity to Plan International
- The On-call driver must be willing to abide by Plan International Uganda policies and procedures during the period.
- The On-call driver must be willing to sign and abide by the organization’s Children and Young people Safeguarding Policy.
- The On-call driver be able to communicate and write in basic English.
- The on-call driver shall indemnify Plan International Uganda, its implementing partners, and its staff against any claims, that may arise in connection with the performance of this Agreement by the consultant
- The on-call driver shall declare that all works carried out during the contract duration remain the property of Plan International Uganda.
- Should show commitment and availability at place of work as per the stated period of the contract.
- The On-call driver must be willing to undertake assignment at any Plan International Uganda office as shall be guided HR.
- On call driver to be fairly familiar with geographical area of operation.
Remuneration: The On-call driver will be entitled to UGX 50,000/= per day worked towards her professional fee / consolidated remuneration and there shall be no other benefit the on call shall be entitled to.
