Job Title:      Laboratory Assistant

Organization: USAID funded Regional Health Integration to Enhance Services – North, Lango Project (RHITES-N, Lango)

Duty Station: Uganda

Reports to: Senior Laboratory Assistant

About US:

The Regional Health integration to Enhance Services (RHITES)-North, Lango project is a Five-year contract funded by USAID and implemented by a Team of partners with JSI as the prime. The JSI team includes, Doctors with Africa CUAMM, AMREF Health Africa, Another Option, and The Medical Concierge Group (TMCG). RHITES-N, Lango is aimed at improving the use of integrated health services in the Lango Sub-region of Northern Uganda’s, strengthening the health system to sustain gains made by earlier projects, improving key population-based national health indicators and building the capacity of the district local government to carry out a sustainable and locally-driven response to the HIV epidemic, while also improving TB, Malaria, Nutrition, Maternal, Neonatal, Child and Adolescent health (MNCAH), and water sanitation and hygiene (WASH) outcomes through strengthening of existing structures and processes, improving access to and strategic use of health and nutrition information, strengthening community-health facility systems and expanding innovation through integrated health and nutrition services.

Job Summary: The Laboratory Assistant will conduct basic laboratory tests for diagnosis of diseases..

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Preparing laboratory reagents and stains for routine investigations.
  • Carrying out basic laboratory tests and submits reports to Clinicians.
  • Observing safety and quality assurance practices in laboratories.
  • Cleaning and servicing the laboratory equipment regularly.
  • Requisitioning necessary supplies for laboratory work and keeping record of stock.
  • Participating in research activities.
  • Compiling and submitting daily and periodic laboratory reports.

Key Outputs:

  • Laboratory reagents and stains prepared for routine investigations.
  • Laboratory tests done, analyzed and results submitted.
  • Safety and quality assurance practices for laboratories observed.
  • Laboratory equipment regularly cleaned and serviced.
  • Daily and periodic activity reports compiled and submitted.
  • Disposal of laboratory waste done.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The ideal candidate must hold a Certificate in Medical Laboratory Techniques or its equivalent from a recognized Institution.
  • Must be registered with the Allied Health Professionals Council.
  • One year of experience in the same field
