We provide Comprehensive Primary Health Care, Reproductive Health, HIV/AIDS and Nutrition.
Job Summary: Responsible for overseeing laboratory services of all regional health facilities, including planning, staffing, budgeting and quality assurance activities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan, direct, budget, coordinate, monitor and evaluate laboratory services at health facilities
- Collect samples, including performing phlebotomy, and conduct routine laboratory investigations for patients
- Interpret laboratory results, communicate findings to clinicians and file reports while ensuring confidentiality
- Process specimens to be sent to outside laboratories, do follow up as required
- Maintain quality control of specimen samples
- Ensure hygiene and sterilization criteria, including universal precautions, are met; manage waste as per good laboratory practices
- Ensure laboratory equipment are secure and well maintained with proper inventory
- Participate in the budget planning process and is held accountable for allocated resources, including laboratory equipment and materials
- Institutes and coordinates quality assurance for laboratories across all regional health facilities
- Develop and conduct CMEs for medical staff as required
- Compiles and submits reports according to schedule
- Ensure that medical practices are conducted with the highest level of integrity and ethics according to professional and MTI Code of Conduct
- Ensure direct reports have clear objectives, receive mentorship and participate in capacity building opportunities; provide learning and development opportunities for all regional laboratory staff
- Conduct performance evaluations and enforce disciplinary procedures as per MTI policy
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal applicant must hold a Bachelors Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or its equivalent is required
- Registration with Allied Health Professionals Council is required
- Valid practising license is required
- Additional qualifications in Laboratory Management is an added advantage
- Minimum 2 years of experience in laboratory planning and management is required
- Experience working with an international NGO is an added advantage
- In-depth knowledge of laboratory management best practices
- In-depth knowledge of laboratory practices
- In-depth knowledge of how to operate standard laboratory equipment
- Knowledge of hygiene management and IPC protocol
- Skilled in training, capacity building and enforcing quality assurance
- Skilled in budgeting and planning
- Skilled in performing routine laboratory investigations and interpreting results
- Good communication skills, with good command of written and spoken English
- Skilled at using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook and stand
- Keen interest in mentorship of staff under supervision
- Analytical with attention to detail
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of patient information and test results
- Ability to support MTI Calling and adhere to the MTI Code of Conduct
