NRC advocates for the rights of displaced populations and offers assistance within the shelter, education, emergency food security, legal assistance, and water, sanitation and hygiene sectors.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support the shelter/wash officer in the design, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluating of Shelter activities, including but not limited to construction of temporary shelter, semi-permanent shelter, drainage
- Actively participate in gathering and compilation of project information (reports, assessments, baseline, monitoring and evaluation)
- Ensure community participation in all Shelter activities including conducting community training and awareness in the use of shelter
- Tasked with the coordination of construction activities being carried out by NRC in kyangwali
- Ensuring all project activities are in accordance with budgetary constraints and being implemented on schedule.
- Assisting in planning for project implementation including technical activity, financial and procurement planning.
- Participation in tendering and bid analysis for contracts for service delivery and materials.
- Tasked with the preparation of periodic reports on the construction activities, including documentation of final hand over and closure of projects.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant for the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) Project Assistant -Shelter –Engineering job opportunity should hold a Higher Diploma in construction, civil engineering or its equivalent
- Experience from working in WASH/Shelter in a humanitarian/recovery context
- Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
- Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
- Fluency in English, both written and verbal
- Knowledge of Swahilli and Runyakitara is an added advantage
