About US:
Makerere University Lung Institute (MLI) is a center of excellence for Lung Health research, training and care at Makerere University. Our mission is to conduct high quality lung health research that integrates disease prevention, clinical care and training in Sub-Saharan Africa.
MLI will soon open a state of the art outpatient clinic called the Lung Institute Clinic (LIC). The mission of LIC is provision of first world respiratory care to patients with respiratory illness.
Job Summary: The Registered Nurse will provide competent and efficient nursing services to clients. Such services shall include treating all clients with dignity, respect, care and compassion, recognizing their individual health beliefs, needs and values.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform measurement of patients’ basic/vital physical parameters
- Enter medical data of patients into register, patient’s file, and electronic databases; and provide monthly medical reports
- Maintain strict confidentiality with regards to patient’s medical records, patient management and treatment
- Administer minor ‘outpatient’ treatment and immunization requirements
- Assist in providing health education and health promotion programs for the Institute
- Maintain medical supplies inventory
- Organize and prioritize work schedule to meet client needs and Institutional deadlines
- Establish, build and sustain effective relationships within MLI as well as with internal and external clients
- Serve the community in health related situations to achieve healthy community facets
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Diploma in Nursing
- Must be registered with the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council
- One to three years of continuous clinical experience in nursing as a registered nurse
- Previous experience in the usage of computers / MS Office Packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) is desirable
- Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work in a Clinical and Research setting, with respect for diversity
- Effective Communication; ability to write in a clear and concise manner and to communicate effectively orally
- Flexible and reliable with demonstrated ability to adapt to different clinical/research environments
- Must be diligent, honest and able to work with minimal supervision
- Age: Between 21 and 35 years
