Send a Cow (SAC) was founded in the UK in 1988 to help transform lives, by helping African families and orphans to grow enough food to eat, sell their produce and develop small businesses that last. They have provided livestock, seeds, training and ongoing support, to help over a million lives and their families that live in abject poverty. The Send a Cow Group currently constitutes Country Programmes in seven African countries plus the UK and USA, together with a Group Executive which is based in the UK.
Job Summary: The Social Extension Worker will be responsible for ensuring successful delivery of the project, relationships with Farmer Groups, liaison with Project Partners and District Authorities, and oversight and information to enable management of budgets, plans and donor contracts. The Social Extension Worker should have a good overview of the breadth of the Send a Cow Programme, but will have a prime responsibility for the Gender and Social Development aspects of the project.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct project group member training for purposes of group development in gender and social development.
- Provide technical support during farm visits to enable participants to reach gender and social development standards.
- Ensure that the project participants, community and partners have a clear understanding of social inclusion and disability mainstreaming.
- Liaison with group executives to ensure group registration and signing of MOUs between the group and SACU.
- Provide mentoring and coaching of peer farmer trainers and group executives on leadership and disability mainstreaming.
- Participate in group and staff meetings and reporting.
- Developing quarterly and annual work plans and budgets.
- Provide counselling and guidance to project beneficiaries.
- Identify and engage appropriately with key service providers for support and referral of people with disabilities.
- Develop monthly, quarterly, annual reports and project progress reports.
- Participate in community needs assessment for proposal writing.
- Prepare groups for self-governance and sustainability after project graduation.
- Maintain appropriate networks and collaboration with other development agencies and local government at Sub County and district.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant for the Send a Cow UK Social Extension Worker – KILP job should preferably hold a Bachelor’s degree in Social Works & Social Administration/ Development studies/ Social Sciences or any related field OR a Diploma in Social Works & Social Administration/ Development studies/ Social Sciences or any related field with experience.
- Rich field and community development work experience
- Knowledge in extension services delivery
- Experience of monitoring and managing budgets and work plans
- Knowledge of environmental good practice
- Ability to encourage and enable the rural poor, working within their communities
- Ability to deliver training programmes
- Ability to build high quality group dynamics
- Ability to manage conflict and deal positively with setbacks
- Numerate
- Excellent communication skills
- Report writing skills
- Basic Excel and Database skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Good networking skills.
- Able to work well with government and other development partners
- Riding skills with a valid riding permit
- Good computer skills.
- Knowledge of the language of the community
