About US:
Child’s i Foundation is a charity with a small footprint, making a big impact for children and families in Uganda. Child’s i Foundation helps reunite children with their own families where possible and finds loving, Ugandan adoptive or foster families where the child’s own family cannot be found or is unsafe. We help re purpose orphanages into community hub centres that provide services that prevent family separation in the first place.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- To carry a complex child and family workload, which includes children in care, children in need, child protection, and care givers
- Manage a cross cutting case load
- To participate in regular supervision with the Project Manager and to ensure that the Project Manager is made aware of any issues of major importance or concern.
- Attend monthly supervision with Project Manager.
- Report any Child Protection issues to the Safeguarding & QA Lead through the Project Manager
- To work on own initiative, managing and prioritizing own workload under the direction of the supervisor.
- Being up to date with own cases e.g. status and care plans as well as having information on the fingertips about own cases.
- To liaise effectively with other agencies and, where appropriate to be involved in multi-disciplinary work.
- Develop good working relationships with key government officials and partners like Probation officers, police, Local Councils to mention but a few.
- Network with other agencies/organizations developed for referral purposes for prevention, resettlement, fostering and adoption.
- Represent CiF when called upon to promote her interest & position.
- To carry out the full range of assessments and plans within the organisation’s timescales and standards.
- Child average stay under 3 months in Residential care facility
- Child care plans are updated as & when the care plan changes.
- Fostering and adoption assessments are of good quality and error free.
- Child and Family assessments are of good quality and error free.
- Children’s’ files and on Case Management System are up to date with all necessary documents – Ongoing.
- Carry out risk assessments as & when required.
- Carry out 2 monthly case audits – by end of Month.
- To attend team meetings and contribute to team development.
- Attend when required fortnightly safe guarding meeting to give progress updates.
- Attend fortnightly team meetings.
- Attend when required monthly case reviews.
- Contribute to team development by participating & support in organising staff team building days among others
- To maintain individual case records including updating the case management system in accordance with the Organization’s guidance and procedures.
- Adoptive/foster parents’ files and on Case Management System are up to date with all necessary documents – Ongoing.
- Children’s files and on Case Management System are up to date with all necessary documents – Ongoing.
- To participate in the planning of future service delivery as part of a team.
- Provide appropriate feedback including activities during planning
- Use own practice & experience to inform organization policies & procedures
- Establish effective links with the media and participate in filming and social media activities that promote CiF and partners
- Support CiF media team in the production of promotional videos as & when required.
- To develop innovative solutions to intractable family problems
- Demonstrate good problem solving skills with clear examples
- Manage resources effectively including money, equipment and stock allocated to you.
- Keep and maintain CiF equipment like computer among others in a good and working condition – Ongoing.
- Spend money in a cost-effective way ensuring value for money.
- Submit timely accountabilities to finance.
- Any other duties as may be assigned by supervisor
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in social work and social administration
- Post qualifying experience covering assessment; report writing; ability to form trusting relationships; case planning, implementation and review.
- Previous work experience in Tororo particularly related to OVC programming.
- Child development, theories of attachment and loss, Alternative care
- Government policy relating to orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) and in particular with regard to alternative care
- Legislation in relation to OVC, alternative care and adoption
- Basic IT systems knowledge required
- Commitment to learning and keeping up to date.
- Flexibility to adapt to new roles, tasks and situations
- Patience and the ability to remain calm in a crisis
- Strong observation, analytical and listening skills
- Ability to negotiate and mediate on behalf of children and families
- Good organisational skills to work with minimum supervision and plan meetings for the caseload of clients
- Problem solving skills
- Good communication skills, including written and verbal
- Negotiation, conflict resolution and advocacy skills
- Able to demonstrate anti-discriminatory practice in all areas of work
