Job Title:  Fundraising & Partnerships Manager

Duty Station:  Jinja, Uganda (Remote/Home Working with Meetings in Jinja or Mayuge)

Monthly rate of pay: 1,200,000 UGX inclusive of NSSF and PAYE

Duration of Contract: 2 years, renewable

 

About US:

Act4Africa Uganda is an award-winning development organization based in Mayuge District with a 20-year track record of successful poverty relief and women’s empowerment programmes. Act4Africa addresses extreme poverty by tackling gender inequality via health, education, agriculture, and livelihoods interventions. Currently, our two main programmes include an Early Years Learning Centre (Kathy’s Kindergarten), and a UKAID funded programme to support and train vulnerable adolescent mothers aged 14-24.

Act4Africa is in a pivotal stage of development as a charity; evolving in-line with the global movement to decolonize the international aid industry. Act4Africa Uganda was established by and is supported financially by Act4Africa UK, however this new role will be an essential element of the organisation’s transition to being locally-led.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • As our new Programmes & Partnerships Manager your focus will be on building new donor relationships and managing upstream & downstream contract and grant matters for all of our programmes in Uganda.
  • The Programmes & Partnerships Manager will manage the current donor relationship between Act4Africa and UKAID, including narrative reporting, ensuring all deadlines and requirements are met. This will require coordination with the Executive Director, Field Officers, M&E Officer, and Finance Manager in Uganda as well as the UK team and UKAID representatives.
  • The Programmes & Partnerships Manager will also actively seek out institutional donor funding from donors present in Uganda and the wider region including foreign embassies, bi-lateral and multi-lateral instituational donors, and independent trusts and foundations. You will establish and build relationships with donors to achieve multi-year funding, and you will manage the relationship through timely, high-quality narrative and financial reporting as per the donors requirements.
  • In addition, the Programmes & Partnerships Manager work collaboratively with the Act4Africa Uganda and Act4Africa UK teams to ensure our staff are equipped to comply with donor requirements and meet the expectations of our funders. You will be proactive in identifying and enabling our staff to have access to individual or framework suppliers, partners or consultant and will manage or support specific procurement, contracting, and contract/grant management processes.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • You will have great project planning skills, excellent attention to detail, financial literacy, and networking capabilities.
  • This role requires at least three years’ proven track record in business development, grant management, or contracts administration in the international development sector.
  • Good knowledge of donor compliance requirements of major institutional donors, such as UKAID/FCDO/SCCF, SIDA, Global Affairs Canada, Japanese Embassy, USAID, US donors, etc.
  • Confidence in drafting and negotiating contracts.
  • Good knowledge of basic legal principles associated with contracting and granting.
  • Familiarity with common regulatory and governance issues affecting grants and contracts in the international development sector.
  • Experience of implementing or strengthening processes to improve efficiency.
  • Good understanding of business processes including the outsource of procured services.
  • Previous experience in partnership management.
  • Experience of and strong abilities in financial administration including budgeting and reporting.
  • Experience of working and supporting teams working remotely and cross-collaboration between multiple departments
  • Strong finance acumen
  • Excellent networking and influencing skills
  • Confidence in public speaking in person and in virtual events
